I grew up in a Christian family where prayer was a daily routine. We started and ended each day with family prayers, and I was active in church, especially in Sunday school. My understanding of the Bible was strong, and I often engaged in personal Bible study. My desire for the things of God was deep-rooted, and I aimed to live obediently to God, my parents, and societal norms.
However, as I transitioned into my teenage years, things began to change. Although I still attended church and identified as a Christian, I started drifting into sin. I was surrounded by friends who, like me, were good kids but also grappling with youthful exuberance. I started partying, trying to fit in with my peers, and got involved in unhealthy relationships. My life began to reflect the influences around me more than my Christian upbringing.
The Turning Point
Despite my regular church attendance, I found myself caught in a cycle. I would listen to sermons, feel convicted, and become repentant, only to return to my old ways soon after. This struggle continued through high school and into my early adult years.
Then, I had a turning point. One Saturday, I was part of a mass choir performing at a National church conference. Afterward, some of us went to celebrate at a party, which lasted late into the night. The following morning, I had no intention of attending church, but a friend invited me to a special service at his church. Initially, I planned to skip, but after some nudging from my dad, I decided to attend, thinking I’d go for a short while and then return home. Little did I know, this would be a major moment in my salvation story.
The Conversion Experience
As soon as I stepped into the church, a word of knowledge was given that was clearly meant for me. I began to tremble. An altar call was made, and though I raised my hand, an usher dismissed me, thinking I didn’t understand the message. But I knew in my heart that I was the one being called.
After the sermon, another altar call was made, and this time, I responded wholeheartedly. I was the only one who came forward that day, but from that moment, my life changed. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior, and that moment marked the true beginning of my salvation story. I felt an overwhelming peace after the prayer, and I knew I had made the right decision.
From that day forward, I was determined to live a life pleasing to God. I could hear God’s voice more clearly, and I began to receive divine direction in my life. Though I’ve faced temptations along the way, the Holy Spirit has always been there to convict me, and I’ve learned to repent quickly.
Life as a Born-Again Christian
Since my conversion, I’ve remained committed to church. Even though I’ve changed churches and locations a few times, my dedication to serving God has never wavered. I serve in various capacities, knowing that my service is unto the Lord.
As a Christian, I’ve faced numerous challenges. Many times, I’ve had to choose between doing things God’s way or the world’s way. One particular instance stands out: I had the opportunity to visit a country I had always dreamed of immigrating to. Everything seemed perfect, but staying beyond my visa would have been illegal. While I received advice to take shortcuts and find a way to stay, I knew that would involve lying and compromising my faith. With God’s word guiding me, I made the difficult decision to return home. It wasn’t easy, but choosing to follow God’s principles gave me peace.
One of the greatest joys in my salvation story has been witnessing how God reveals things to come and then positions me for those promises. I’ve seen His faithfulness time and time again, and my life has been one testimony after another. The Holy Spirit continues to be my guide, and I am grateful for His constant presence.
Encouragement and Advice
If you’re considering becoming a Christian or are curious about faith, don’t hesitate to take that step. It may not always be easy, but it’s the most fulfilling journey you can embark on. My advice for new believers is to find a community of Christians who can support you, stay rooted in God’s word, and always rely on prayer. The verse that has been particularly meaningful to me in my salvation story is Matthew 16:24: “Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.'” This reminds me daily of the commitment I’ve made to follow Christ, no matter the cost.
Final Thoughts
Looking back on my salvation story, I see how God’s hand has been guiding me every step of the way. Even in moments of doubt and struggle, He was always there, ready to lead me back to Him. My prayer is that others will find the same grace and peace that I have found in Christ.
