It’s not just some fleeting feeling; it’s an action word too. You know, in the Bible, we’re commanded to love God with all our hearts and to love our neighbors as ourselves. If we could sum up these two commands in one word, it would undoubtedly be LOVE. And that really makes me curious to learn more about what the Bible has to say on this matter.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 really captures the essence of love. It says that love is patient and kind. Now, let’s pause right there for a moment. Patience, my friend, is a virtue we all need to cultivate. It means being able to accept or tolerate delays, problems, or suffering without getting annoyed or anxious. Let me ask you this: have you ever found yourself tempted to jump the line instead of waiting patiently for your turn? Or maybe you’ve been in a hurry at the grocery store and ended up putting up an attitude with the cashier because of the long queue? We’ve all been there!

But here’s the real test: can we be patient with the shortcomings of our loved ones without getting angry? And can we continue to express our love to God even when things aren’t going as planned? I know it’s tough, but that’s the challenge – to love even in difficult situations.

Now, here’s some good news. The Bible tells us that patience is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. So, to love effectively, we need the help of the Spirit. Love, in itself, is also a fruit of the Spirit. So, when we choose to walk by the Spirit, loving becomes more manageable. You see, it’s about making a conscious decision to live according to God’s standards and not our selfish desires.

I heard this incredible story of a woman who faced a really tough situation. Her husband brought another woman into their home, and things got very rough for her. Instead of giving up and filing for divorce, she chose to pray daily for her husband’s salvation. And you know what? After some time, things didn’t work out between the husband and the other woman, and he came back to his wife, seeking forgiveness. Her decision to be patient and rely on the Holy Spirit’s help made all the difference.

So, my friend, if you want to demonstrate this patient, agape love, you need to walk daily with the Holy Spirit. And if you haven’t accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior yet, that’s the starting point. It’s about confessing and repenting from your sins and inviting Jesus into your life.
