Who Am I?

Unlock Your True Self: Answer the Essential Question, “Who Am I?”

Who Am I?

Life constantly asks us, “Who am I?” How we answer this question can shape our destiny. Think about it: there are stories where people answered this question right and their lives turned out great, while others suffered because they didn’t get it right.

Take Eve and the serpent in Genesis 3, for example. The serpent convinced Eve to eat the forbidden fruit so she could be like God. But wait, who was Eve like before? Wasn’t she already like God? And then there’s the story of the ten spies sent to scout Jericho in Numbers 13. Ten of them saw themselves as grasshoppers compared to the inhabitants and believed they couldn’t possess the land. And guess what? They didn’t! On the other hand, two spies saw themselves as able to possess the land, and they did!

Who Are You Really?

The best place to find the answer to “Who am I?” is in the Bible, our owner’s manual, because we are created by God. Genesis 1:26 says, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us.” Verse 27 continues, “So God created human beings in his own image.” This means our core identity is rooted in God’s image and likeness.

Simply put, you are like God!

Body, Mind, and Spirit

You might be wondering, if I am like God, what does He look like? Is He tall or short? Fat or slim? The answer is none of these, because God is Spirit. He also has intellect and emotions. So, you are a Spirit being with a mind, housed in a body.

Genesis 2:7 explains that after man was created in the image of God (the Spirit and mind), God formed man from the dust and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, making man a living being. This means we are not just physical bodies but also have a spirit and a mind.

Implications of Being Made in God’s Image

Being made in God’s image implies that our identity is multifaceted. We can’t define ourselves by our physical appearance alone. Our body, mind, and spirit are integral parts of who we are.

Understanding that we are made in God’s image helps us live with a balanced perspective. It encourages us to care for our bodies, nurture our minds, and connect with our spirits.

Moreover, our response to life’s challenges should mirror how God would respond. The next time you feel intimidated by a difficult task, remember you are like God and nothing can intimidate Him. Let this truth stir up the faith and confidence you need to tackle the task.
